Can you build a garden room if you have restricted access?
Access to your garden
Not every property has a clear path to the garden. Terraced homes, side returns blocked by extensions, or tight boundary lines can all make access to the rear garden feel like a major obstacle when planning a garden room build. But restricted access doesn’t mean your project is off the table, you just need the right system in place.
The Ladder Test
At InFrame, we use a panellised steel frame system, which allows us to carry in each section by hand. If you’re worried about access, the first thing to consider is this: could you carry a long ladder from your front door to the garden? If the answer is yes, then chances are we can get our steel frame through as well. Our individual panels are designed to be manageable and assembled on site, rather than delivered in one large, pre-built piece.
Restrictions
That said, it’s not all straightforward. Tight turns, low ceilings, or sharp corners inside the home can complicate things. We’ll always assess your access during the site visit and walk the route ourselves to confirm what’s possible. Every project is different, and we’ll never make assumptions without seeing the space first-hand.
Our Expert Advice
If you’re unsure whether your property is suitable, we’re happy to advise. With the right planning and a bit of creative thinking, most gardens can accommodate a steel-framed room even when access is far from ideal.
