FAQ's
Yes – as you’re increasing the square footage of your property, a garden studio will add value to your house.
The value will vary depending on the size of the garden studio space and the quality of the build. A garden room can typically add 5% to 10% to the resale value of your house.
Yes, you can. A garden studio is designed for year round use. The high-quality materials and insulation we use will protect your garden studio from the elements.
With its double insulation you will feel warn during the cold winter months, cooler when the sun comes out.
Typically, most summer houses don’t require planning permission as they are regarded as ‘permitted developments’. However, there are some circumstances where you will require planning permission.
You will need planning permission if your studio is over a certain height and size, as well as if you plan to use it as accommodation. You will also need planning permission if you live in a conservation area or listed building.
Before installing your garden studio, we advise contacting your local council to see if you require planning permission.
If you want to have the odd sleepover with the kids in your garden studio, that should be fine. However, there are rules in place if you plan to turn your studio into a bedroom or self-contained accommodation.
You will need to apply for planning permission and follow building regulations to ensure your garden studio is safe for people to live and sleep in. You may also have to pay additional council tax.
We recommend speaking to your local council who will tell you what you need to do and if you need planning permission.
Depending on the size of your garden, you’ll have a lot of options for placing your brand new modern garden studio. Here are our top tips for making sure you put it in a spot where it will give you years of enjoyment and offer year round use.
Place it somewhere where the ground is flat and level and where drainage is good.
Put your garden studio somewhere that is easy to access. You don’t want to be climbing over patches of mud, hedges or other debris to get to it!
Consider where your neighbours are. You don’t want to disturb them, and you don’t want them to disturb you either.
Think about where the sun rises and sets in location to your garden studio space. If you do your best work in the morning, install your studio to face east. Alternatively, if you’re a night owl, place your garden studio to face west. You’ll want to make sure your doors and windows take advantage of the beautiful sunrise and sunset!
