Hampton – Garden Room Studio

Client Brief

The brief was to create a calm, functional retreat that allows the client to reclaim space within the main house while enhancing the overall garden setting. With older children having moved back home, there was a clear need to relocate the office into a dedicated external structure, freeing up internal living space and improving day to day practicality.

The proposed garden room was designed as a dual purpose environment, serving both as a focused workspace and a tranquil yoga and relaxation space. This requires a careful balance between functionality and atmosphere, ensuring the space feels equally suited to productivity and downtime.

Externally, a timber clad finish has been specified to allow the building to sit naturally within its surroundings, softening its presence and helping it blend seamlessly into the garden environment. The orientation of the building, positioned side on to the main house, creates an opportunity to introduce additional glazing along the side elevation. This will maximise natural light and provide wide, panoramic views across the garden, reinforcing the connection between the internal space and the outdoors.

Overall, the design intent is to deliver a private, light filled retreat that feels distinct from the house, yet fully integrated with the landscape, offering a versatile space that supports both work and wellbeing.
