Leatherhead, Garden Studio

Client Brief:

When this client first got in touch, their main goal was to create a dedicated workspace for his wife, who works from home two days a week. At the time, she was using the spare room inside the house, a space they now needed to free up for their children.

They had initially looked into building an extension, but found the costs and planning process too restrictive. A garden room offered the ideal alternative of a purpose-built office without the disruption or expense of extending the home.

During our first call, we discussed where the garden room could sit best within their space. The chosen location was along the left-hand boundary, positioned side-on next to the neighbour’s wall to make the most of the available area. To tie the new structure into the garden, he also liked the idea of adding a deck that would run along the long side of the building.

Low maintenance was an important factor, so we talked about composite cladding options that would provide a clean, contemporary finish without the need for ongoing upkeep. He also mentioned wanting to include air conditioning for year-round comfort, while his wife had a clear design request of her own, she loved the colour orange, which we noted for the final styling and interior accents.

This project began with a simple brief which was to create a practical, comfortable workspace and evolved into a fully tailored design that reflects both their lifestyle and personal tastes.
